Kansas Raiders - After their parents are killed by Union soldiers, Jesse James (Audie Murphy) and his brother Frank (Richard Long), along with the rest of their gang, ride into Kansas looking for William Quantrill (Brian Donlevy). Seeking revenge against the Union, Jesse wants to join Quantrill's Raiders, who are plotting to claim Kansas for the Confederacy. The more time Jesse spends with Quantrill, however, the more he realizes that Quantrill isn't a hero fighting for the South, but a murderous madman.

The Lawless Breed - Released from prison after serving 16 years of a quarter-century sentence for murder, reformed gunfighter John Wesley Hardin (Rock Hudson) completes a written autobiography, hoping to convince his son (Race Gentry) not to follow a criminal path. In it, he shows how having left home as a young man against the wishes of his strict preacher father (John McIntire) and his first love (Mary Castle), he is hurled into the outlaw life when he shoots a man in self-defense during a card game in a saloon.

The Texas Rangers - The Civil War has ended, the Union Army has pulled out, and now the Texas Rangers are needed once again to protect their state from harm. The newly reformed Rangers decide to take a chance by hiring a notorious outlaw Johnny Carver (George Montgomery). They offer the desperado amnesty for his previous crimes if he'll put his famous trigger finger to work for Texas. Carver agrees, but his new job won't be easy, as his old rival, the Sundance Kid (Ian MacDonald), is out for vengeance.

Canyon Passage - Logan Stuart (Dana Andrews) is the proprietor of a general store in an Oregon mining town. His best friend, George Camrose (Brian Donlevy), is a greedy banker and compulsive gambler. Logan falls in love with Camrose's fiancée, Lucy Overmire (Susan Hayward), but proposes to his own girlfriend, Caroline Marsh (Patricia Roc), despite his secret love for Lucy. While dealing with romantic issues, Logan must also deal with murder, rape, robbery attempts, brawls and Native American attacks.
