SS-GB is a 2017 BBC drama miniseries based on Len Deighton's 1978 alternative history spy thriller novel of the same name. The story is set in 1941, in a parallel universe where the Nazis won World War II and occupy Britain. The series follows Detective Superintendent Douglas Archer (Sam Riley), a Scotland Yard murder squad detective who works closely with the SS to maintain law and order. When Archer is assigned to a routine murder case, the investigation escalates into a high-stakes espionage battle when an SS Standartenfuhrer arrives from Berlin to oversee it. Archer must navigate a crisis of conscience over whether to stand up to his new bosses, while also dealing with issues of love, trust, and patriotism. Some consider Archer a traitor for working with the SS, and he himself believes that resistance is futile and will lead to more bloodshed. However, the murder investigation takes a political turn when it appears to have been carried out by British Resistance agents.
