The Rising of the Shield Hero is an anime series that follows Naofumi Iwatani, a Japanese college student who is transported to a fantasy world and chosen as one of four heroes to save it from calamity. The other heroes are also young men from similar worlds to Naofumi, but he is considered the weakest because he is the Shield Hero and only has a shield, while the others have offensive weapons. The heroes must fight against monsters that pour into the world through portals that open in the sky, known as Waves.
