Legendary, long-running Christian heavy metallers Stryper are set to return with their twelfth studio album of original material entitled "When We Were Kings". While the band continues with the pursue of a heavier sound compared to the classic albums of the 80's, Stryper maintain crucial to approach every new album with the mentality that "our best is yet to come." There is no reason why that thought cannot become reality. "When We Were Kings” has it all - everything expected from Stryper and then some.
From songs like “End of Days” (which showcases their heavy side) to the title track (which has a groove like no other) to the deep and dark ballad “Betrayed By Love” to the classic meets modern vibe of “Loves Symphony” to the classic pop sense of “Grateful” - the album offers a variety of flavours yet a unique familiarity. Sonically speaking the band's singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer, Michael Sweet, along with Danny Bernini, employed some very unique recording techniques to make the guitars sound huge. And huge they are!
During the writing process, it was very important to incorporate choruses that are memorable, melodic, and a bit of a throwback to the past while keeping a few modern-day twists and turns along the way. Everything came together perfectly, and everyone delivered on a whole new level. There truly is something very special about this one. Today, exactly 40 years after emerging from the southern California nightclub scene, the foursome continues to record, tour and perform for loyal fans around the globe. Comprising three original members including brothers Michael Sweet (lead vocals, guitar) and Robert Sweet (drums), Oz Fox (guitar) and bassist Perry Richardson (formerly of Firehouse), Stryper could not be more excited about “When We Were Kings” and cannot wait to see and hear what everyone says.
